Dragon Battle 3D guide: how to fly, fight and win

Updated · 4 minute read

In Dragon Battle 3D, the dragon that wins is usually the one that keeps moving: get into the air early, lock onto a rival, mix quick shots with a charged heavy shot, and save your tail guard for the big hit coming back. Start with a Duel on Easy, then move up to two rivals.

Your first battle

  1. 1Open Dragon Battle 3D from a room. Solo is selected at the top of the roost. Keep Silverwing or pick one of the other free dragons under Dragons: Granite, Embercrest or Mossback.
  2. 2Choose the Battle card, then Duel (1 v 1). Under Battle settings, set the bots to Easy and the length to three minutes.
  3. 3Press Battle. Hold Space to rise off the ground, then W to fly forward. Press T to lock onto your rival: an arrow shows where it is.
  4. 4Click to fire. When a rival is far away, use attack 3, the heavy shot, and hold the click to charge it. Up close, switch to 1 or 2.
  5. 5Keep an eye on your health in the bottom left. The last dragon flying wins; when the clock runs out, the most health left wins.

Controls on a computer and a phone

On a computer, Alt frees the mouse cursor. R retries a battle or resets free flight. On a phone, Settings has the graphics level: turn it down if the game feels slow.

The three attacks

Every dragon has three attacks of its own element, and the dragon's stats panel shows each one's damage, range and reload. Silverwing, the default dragon, is a good example of how they differ:

  • The quick shot is your steady damage. It reloads in under a second, so keep firing while you chase.
  • The breath only reaches a short way. Use it when a rival is right in front of you, not from across the island.
  • The heavy shot hits hardest and reaches furthest, but reloads slowly. Charge it fully, and fire when your rival is flying straight at you or away from you.
  • The ring around the crosshair fills while you charge and shows a reload in red. A new press is needed after a reload; holding the button through it does not fire.

Staying alive: tail guard, rolls and cover

The tail guard (F, or Front flip on a phone) flips your dragon so its tail takes the hit. A blocked shot does no damage, and the guard then needs a few seconds before it is ready again; the panel under your health shows when. Save it for a heavy shot, not a stream of quick ones.

Q and E roll the dragon. Rolling while you change height and direction makes you much harder to hit than flying in a straight line.

Each island map has towers, bridges, rocks and cliffs, and they stop shots. In Outnumbered, fly behind cover so that only one rival can see you at a time.

Which dragon, and what to upgrade

Granite, Embercrest, Silverwing and Mossback are free. The other eight unlock with gems from daily rewards and challenges. Every dragon starts a battle with the same base health; what changes is the element and the three attacks, so pick the one whose range and reload suit how you like to fight.

Solo battles earn Embers and dragon XP once you have played for 30 seconds and dealt some damage. Spend Embers on four upgrade tracks for each dragon: vitality, quick shot, breath and heavy, up to three ranks each as the dragon levels up. Upgrades count in solo play only: online battles use base stats, so friends meet on equal terms.

Tips for The Last Lightkeepers

  • Read the journal (J) for your current quest and the map. Fly to the beacons you discover: they heal you, save a checkpoint and let you travel back quickly outside a fight.
  • Each guardian has three phases and a warning before its big attacks. Leave marked ground, climb, or fly through gaps rather than trading hits.
  • With a friend, stay close. If your wingmate goes down, get within 24 metres, press G and keep still for three seconds. Taking damage or moving interrupts it.
  • Alone, a defeat sends you back after eight seconds. In co-op, a downed rider has 30 seconds to be rescued first.
  • Press K for story skills. They grow along their own branches and are separate from your battle upgrades.
  • Your story progress is saved in this browser. Signed in with Google, it is also kept on your account and carries over to another device.

Battles with friends

In a room, switch the roost from Solo to Friends. The host picks the format, the island and the sky, and presses Battle; there is no Ready button, and the match starts once everyone's game has loaded. Up to four riders can fly in one battle, with bots in any empty seats. Wingmates (2v2) is a good first match: two friends against two bots on Easy.

Questions

What should I do first in Dragon Battle 3D?
Play a Duel against an Easy bot. Take off with Space, lock on with T, and practise switching between the quick shot and a charged heavy shot.
How do I charge the heavy attack?
Select attack 3, then hold the mouse button or Fire and let go when the ring around the crosshair is full.
What does the tail guard do?
It blocks one hit completely, then needs a few seconds before you can use it again.
Do upgrades work against friends?
No. Upgrades bought with Embers count in solo play. Online battles use base stats for every rider.
