How to play Doodle Dash

  1. 1

Make a room, share its code and choose Doodle Dash. The host picks the mode and the rules for everyone.

  2. 2

Draw with a finger or the mouse. The toolbar has pens and brushes, a colour picker, an eraser, a fill bucket, and straight lines, rectangles and ellipses.

  3. 3

Type guesses in the Answers box and talk in the Chat box. In the guessing modes, faster correct answers score more: up to 300, and 50 more for the first.

  4. 4

When the round ends, the drawings are shown and, in most modes, the room votes for its favourite.

The nine modes

Blind Drawing
One player draws a word while everyone else races to guess it. The catch: the drawer can't see their own canvas, so it comes out gloriously wrong. The drawer scores for every friend who gets it, and after each round everyone's drawings are shown side by side.
Drawing Guess
The classic: the drawer picks one of three words, and its letters reveal on a timer as the turn goes on. Everyone draws the same number of times and the highest total wins.
Fake Artist
Everyone sees the same word except one player, the fake, who only sees its category. Each player adds a single line to one shared drawing, twice round the room, then everyone votes on who the fake is. A fake who escapes scores 300, and one who is caught but then guesses the word scores 250. Needs four players.
Telephone
Everyone writes something to draw. Each prompt moves on to be drawn, that drawing moves on to be described without seeing the prompt, and so on round the room. Then every chain is played back from the first prompt to the last guess. Needs three players.
Masterpiece
Everyone copies the same picture at once, then votes for the best copy. The host can make it a memory test: the picture shows for ten seconds, then hides.
One Colour
Everyone writes a prompt, the prompts are swapped round, and everyone draws someone else's in black only. Then the vote.
Pass & Add
Everyone starts a drawing, and when the timer runs out each one moves to the next player, who carries on with it. At the end every drawing is revealed with who added what.
Co-op Canvas
Everyone draws one picture together, live, from the same prompt. Undo and Clear only touch your own lines. No winner: the picture is the prize.
Relay
One picture and one pen, passed to the next player every few seconds.

Words and rules

The words come from themes the host can mix: General, Animals, Food & drink, Objects & household, Places & buildings, and Actions. The host can also add the room's own words, or play with only those.

Timers, the number of rounds and each mode's own options are set in the lobby before the game starts. Chat stays open between turns, and during the Fake Artist vote.

Tips

  • In the guessing modes, draw the biggest, simplest shape first. Details can come later, but a fast early guess scores more.
  • As the Fake Artist, watch the first few lines before you draw yours, and keep your line vague enough to fit several answers.
  • In Telephone, describe exactly what you see, not what you think the first person meant. The funniest chains come from honest guesses.
  • The fill bucket fills a closed shape in one tap, which makes a big difference on a phone.
