How to play The Last Gasp
- 1
Someone sets the word. In Free-For-All one player types it; in Teams your team suggests words and votes on one.
- 2
The word is then open to everyone. Tap or type any letter. The fastest right guess wins the letter.
- 3
Every letter is worth points, and rare ones such as J, Q and Z are worth the most. A right guess also gives you, and only you, a two-second window to keep going, and chained hits pay more each time.
- 4
A wrong guess draws the next piece of the stickman. Six wrong guesses and he's finished, and whoever drew the last line loses the word's points.
- 5
The host sets how many words a match lasts. The highest score at the end wins.
Ways to play
- Free-For-All
- Everyone for themselves, taking turns to set the word.
- Teams
- Online only. Teams suggest and vote on the word they set, and race together for letters.
- Solo and shared screen
- Play against bots on your own, or with friends around one screen, with no internet needed.
Reading the gallows
Early in a word, guess freely: a miss costs little. By the third piece it is worth thinking before you call. With one piece left, the next miss decides who pays, so the room usually goes quiet and waits for someone to crack.
Faces are the only thing to collect: three are free and more can be bought with coins earned by playing. They change how you look, not how you play.
Tips
- Vowels are safe early and risky late. Once the obvious letters are gone, every miss moves the gallows on.
- Use your two-second window. A chain of hits is worth far more than single letters.
- When setting a word, short words with rare letters beat long ones.
The Last Gasp questions
- Is The Last Gasp free?
- Yes. It's free to play in the browser, with no download and no adverts inside the game.
- Can I play The Last Gasp alone?
- Yes, against bots at Doodler, Speller or Wordsmith level.
- How many players can play?
- From one to eight. Online rooms can play Free-For-All or Teams.
- Is it hangman?
- It uses the hangman idea of guessing letters before the drawing is finished, but everyone guesses at the same time and races for each letter.
- Can I play The Last Gasp on my phone?
- Yes. The Last Gasp runs in your phone's browser with nothing to install, on Android and iPhone. It plays with the phone held either way. One finger is all it needs: taps, or drag and let go. Friends can join the same room from their own phones, tablets or computers.
